Yanny Split b. 1947 (Netherlands)
Yanny Split is a fibre artist who has lived in the North Waikato town of Huntly since immigrating to New Zealand in the early 1980s.
Her reputation was set when her whacky woollen garments were taking out prizes in the Benson & Hedges Fashion awards which were running the mid-late 1980s.
Her earliest shows were whilst she was still a student in the Netherlands. She became good friends with Doris Du Pont and showed some of their works together in the formative years of their careers.
Much of Yanny's work is hand-dyed and painstakingly made to be quite outrageous.
