Biography
Nairn was one of the "Glasgow Boys", studying at the Glasgow Institute of Fine Arts under Robert Greenless in 1880, and at the Academie Julian in Paris. Like the other members of the Glasgow Art Club, he was principally interested in light and colour, and admired French Impressionism. He immigrated to New Zealand because of his health in 1890, and settled in Wellington where he taught art at the Wellington Technical College for many years.
