Biography
Paula Nawalu has been making pottery fulltime for the past 9 years. Previously he was an officer in the army.
He originally learnt about pottery from his mother Resina Lesuma. He was further inspired to make pottery after a visit from Simon Hubert - an English man from Sherwood Forest who was sponsored by the Fiji Arts Council to run a workshop. Simon showed Paula the method of using a banding wheel toform pottery. This way has been utilised and perfected by Paula who makes all his pots using this method.

He gets his clay from the river bank. Classical shapes inspire him in his choice of designs which are chiefly large water vessel shapes. His work is often left plain or wrapped with string (often intricate desogns). Only sometimes he decorates his work with traditional patterns.
Most of his work is retailed through Matenga's Handicrafts in Suva.
