Barry Cleavin ONZM (NZ - b.1939) is one of New Zealand’s most famous print makers. His exceptional and technically wondrous works are laced with absurd and fantastical imagery; conjuring up a sense of the macabre nature of real life that can be seen in the daily news.
Cleavin has long been one of the masters of intaglio print making amongst New Zealand print makers and lectured at Ilam School of Fine Arts at the University of Canterbury in Christchurch from 1978 to 1990. Cleavin has exhibited extensively since the 1960s both here and internationally and his works are represented in all major collections in New Zealand and abroad. In 2001, he was conferred as an Officer of the New Zealand Order of Merit for his contribution to art in New Zealand. sent from Barry Cleavin to Leafa Via Facebook message.
