 Description
This silver cradle was presented to Ellen Octavia Graham Bond after the birth of Ellen (Nellie) Sarah Hamilton on January 15, 1908. It was customary in New Zealand towns for the councillors' wives to present a silver cradle to their mayoress if she gave birth to a child during her (husband's) term of office. Ellen was married to James Shiner Bond, who was mayor of Hamilton from 1905 to 1909.
