Cartoon – "It's a Wise Child..."

Production date
24 Aug 1968
Description
In 1968 Robert Welch (1939-2020) imported 25 merino sheep embryos from Australia in the uteruses of three rabbits, and then transplanted them into a number of surrogate (sheep) mothers. Cartoons like this one appeared in the New Zealand Herald and the Auckland Star.

The cartoon reads: "RUAKURA BORN LAMB SPENDS 5 DAYS AS FERTILISED EGG IN RABBIT BEFORE BEING TRANSFERRED TO FOSTER-MOTHER EWE" and depicts a series of panels with a farmer being surprised when a lamb says "Ma!" and chases after a rabbit.
