Coming ready or not – The Four Horsemen approach Ruakiwi Road

Description
Oil on board painting by Pam Watson. Information from the artist: "Hamilton City dreams in the late afternoon sun unaware that Durer's 'Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse' – in colours from the Book of Revelations – are riding up from Hamilton Lake. The White Conqueror is holding a bow, Red War carrying a sword, Black Famine a pair of scales, and Death on a pale horse carrying a trident – they have zapped a Friedrich tree from their path and will not be stopped. I started this painting in 1996, after a month in Germany pursuing several German artists through many galleries – including Albrecht Durer and Caspar David Friedrich. The Courthouse, Police Station and Cathedral represent Judgement and Justice. There are increasing inequities in our society that give rise to issues of social justice."
