Maker
Edgar Ernest Gillman
Production date
31 May 1916
Description
This blueprint from plans of a 1916 cheese factory shows a detailed cross-section of the curing room, which is essentially an insulated storage compartment. Construction is conventional timber framing on a cement plaster floor, with the plaster extending part way up the walls to facilitate cleaning. Under-floor insulation is provided by 30” of shingle, while the hollow walls are filled with lightweight pumice to trap air and hold the temperature as constant as possible.
