Slaughter. The Affco Horotiu Freezing Works has a resource consent to take up to 29000m3 of river water daily. The meat processing plant discharges approximately 2000m3 of treated wastewater back into the river daily, containing an average of 350kg of total nitrogen and 50kg of total phosphorous.
