Description
Nigerian robe made from locally spun cotton. Heavily embroidered with two central panels of white natural cotton. In the embroidery is a representation of the Northern Islamic knot. The garment is dyed indigo, the local natural dye. Extremely heavy garment lined with embroidered cloth.
Took five years to make and embroider. Made by six men in the Bauchi Province of Northern Nigeria and presented to Mr Watt by the Emir of Bauchi in 1960.
