Description
In 1974 Waikato Museum acquired a selection of items, including this cowrie shell, from Graham Jackson. Jackson was a New Zealand anthropologist who spent time living with and researching the Kopon and the Kalam people of the Lower Kaironk Valley in Papua New Guinea.

Jackson fieldnotes: Large cowrie shell which has had its top broken off and partially ground smooth. W wo = a shell valuable; dlep = the kind of shell; abo = in other contexts means "stare". This one is put in eel traps to attract eels. Traded and exchanged from northern areas.
