Biography
Born in Dunedin New Zealand in 1970, Richard attended Otago School of Arts graduating with a Diploma in Ceramic Arts in 1993. Shifting to Wellington Richard began working as a tutor and developing his technique in ceramics.

Description

Richards work has been exhibited widely in New Zealand and overseas, and his works are included in private and public collections notably Te Papa Tongarewa, The Dowse Art Museum and the Real Art Road show.
Richard’s ceramics have always responded to industrially produced press moulded and heavily ornate 18th century ceramics. Historical form and technique are critical to his works imaginative generation and meaning.
Richards’s awards include –
Finalist 21st Annual Wallace Arts Awards (2012)
Dowse Museum Deane Award (2010)
Urbis Magazine object of the year (2009)
Wellington Potters Association Annual Innovation Award (2005, 2001)
Past solo exhibitions have been shown at the Dowse Lower Hutt, Anna Miles Gallery Auckland and Paul Nache Gallery Gisborne.
