SOMETHING ABOUT RICHARD LEWER
1971, Richard Lewer was born in the, city of Hamilton, in the lush farming Waikato region. It’s the city that has made its mark in his mind ever since, despite having lived in Melbourne, Australia, for the last decade. Richard Lewer’s accessible works enable us to identify commonly shared fears and experiences that is the fabric of life. His style conveys the sensitivity of a psychologist, the furtive observation of a deviant voyeur, wrapped up with the purity of a nine year Catholic old boy.

Since engaging in the Australian - international art arena, his reputation as an important artist has grown after gaining national acclaim as a selected finalist in the coveted Basil Sellers Art Prize in Australia in for three years running.
In 2008, Lewer was selected as the McCahon artist in residence as well as being the recipient of the 2008 Wallace Art Award here in New Zealand.
Lewer’s works are represented in the National Gallery of Victoria - Melbourne, Te Papa Tongarewa The Museum of New Zealand, Monash University Collection – Melbourne, the James Wallace Collection (NZ) and numerous national and international private collections.
