Art Biography Elaine Henry, Hamilton

Training Basic training through 4 year Correspondence Illustrating Course. Attended
Weekend and summer schools with well known NZ artists over several years including
Louise Henderson, Jan Nigro, Kees Hos, Doris Lusk and Paul Van den Bergh. Life Drawing
at WSA for several years. Bronze Casting Schools with David Reid of Art Works Studio,
Auckland. Member of Waikato Bronze Casting Group. Later with Waikato Society of Potters more weekend schools with Brian Gartside, Philip Luxton and others. Work in the Barry Hopkins Collection and Trust Waikato at Waikato Museum, Hamilton. Also in private collections in NZ and overseas.

1999 to 2006 exhibited Ceramic Sculpture with the Waikato Society of Potters
and the WSA, Hamilton.
1994 Bronze and Aluminium Sculptures at the Ferner Gallery, Parnell with
other artists.
1994 Continued exhibiting bronze pieces at Academy of Fine Arts, Wellington.
1993 Installation in Waikato Museum for Women’s Suffrage Year; media bronze with
some supporting media.
1992 Exhibition of Bronze Metamorphic Plant Forms in association with Ata Ellery
Oil Paintings WSA Gallery, Victoria St. Hamilton.
1991 Exhibition of Bronze and Aluminium Sculptures, with Drawings by Rob Gardiner,
Ruth Davey and Val Gilchrist. Aluminium Survivors of 21st Century
WSA Gallery, Victoria St. Hamilton.
1991 Table sculptures in Bronze and Decorated Gourds to Aotearoa Institute,
Te Awamutu. Also shown at Diversions, Kitchener St., Auckland

1983 Working member and exhibiting Paintings with Auckland Society of Arts.
1982 Began to work with lost wax process. Joined Waikato Bronze Casting Society.
Lessons with Margriet Windhausen. (Farming Family-Hamilton) Learn to cast but
later had larger work cast in Auckland at Art works Studio. Did own metal work
and Patinas. Aluminium sand cast in Hamilton.
1981 Solo show of oil paintings (Pink Machines and other paintings) at Studio Gallery,
Waikato Society of Arts , Ham. Exhibited in Te Awamutu Festival
1977 Two artist show of oil paintings at Studio Gallery, WSA, Hamilton.
1969 from this date exhibited drawings and paintings in all media with WSA, Hamilton.

Life Member of Waikato Society of Arts. Past President and committee member through
1970’s to 1980’s. Also Tutor of children’s classes in Waikato Society of Arts Arts School
For 14 years from 1987.
Professional life was as a Registered Nurse at Waikato Hospital to 1987.
