Biography
Violet Watson was a well-known landscape painter and is known as being the first woman to (conjointly) win the prestigious Kelliher Painting Prize in 1974 with her work, 'Maratoto Valley Farm'. The other conjoint winners were:
'Sefton' by Peter Brown
'Trawlers at Anchor' by Owen Lee
'Boy in Empty Room' by E Noordhof
'Last Puha Before the Storm' by Rex Turnbull.

Watson's family were very talented amateur and professional artists. Her father before her and her niece, Pam Watson were very active in the Waikato art scene.
