Shoji Hamada was born in Tokyo, Japan - 1894. He died in Mashiko, Haga District in the Tochigi Prefecture, where he was made a national living treasure in 1955.
He is one of the most influential potters of the 20th Century alongside his peer and friend, Bernard Leach.
