Biography
In the second half of the 19th century, a young man, Abraham Fielding, was indentured to a pottery firm in Staffordshire, England. This youth was to become one of the "Giants" of the English Pottery industry. He created a Company, that for over a Century, supplied the United Kingdom, its Empire and most other countries in the then civilised world, with innovative china and pottery wares such as:

Majolica VellumWare Lustre Ware Figurines Musical Novelties Art Deco products Fancy tableware Souvenir & Commemorative items

All these wares were produced for worldwide markets.

His son Arthur Ross, who was soon joined by his son, Reginald, eventually succeeded Abraham. Surviving two disastrous fires and two World Wars, the Company continued to compete for world markets, restructuring production in the face of increased competition from overseas competitors. Entry by Great Britain into the European Common Market presented Fielding's with new problems and challenges On the one hand to retain traditional markets and on the other, endeavouring to establish themselves with the European trading community. The changing nature of the English pottery industry and market specialisation, required mergers and take-overs, however Fielding's continued to trade successfully, albeit as a much changed and restructured firm.

In 1965 Reginald Fielding suffered a severe heart attack and in 1967 with his retirement, the Fielding family connections with the Company, came to an end. The recession period in the English pottery industry during the late 1970s and early 1980s took its toll on this once proud and prosperous Company and in December 1982 the works gates closed for the last time. Four years later all the buildings we demolished. But the legend and name live on in the wonderful products that are collected all over the world by people from all walks of life. Recent auctions at Christies, Phillips and other auction houses have seen record prices paid for Fielding's Crown Devon pieces. Interest in the Company and its products, continues to gather momentum.

The Fielding's Crown Devon Collectors Club was formed to assist and support all the avid collectors throughout the world who are constantly seeking further and better information on the Fielding's firm and its many and varied products.
