Cooking Pot

Description
"Kohua" (Go-ashore) cooking pot. This three legged cast iron pot was brought to New Zealand by early traders. Kohua was the Maori name for an earth oven, and the name was transferred to this pot. It is suggested that 'Go-shaw' or 'Go-ashore' was the closest word that Pakeha could say. The pots were still in use by King Country Maori in the 1930s
