Badge – African National Congress of South Africa, Women's Section

Production date
1980s
Description
This protest/social justice badge belonged to, and was worn by, Hamilton activist Catherine Lang. The badge was likely worn by Lang during the 1981 Springbok Tour rugby protests. Protestors in New Zealand felt a shared purpose with the struggles of South Africans during the apartheid era, with a key demand of the anti-apartheid movement being the release from prison of African National Congress leaders.
