Description
In 1968 Robert Welch (1939-2020) imported 25 merino sheep embryos from Australia in the uteruses of three rabbits, and then transplanted them into a number of surrogate (sheep) mothers. Cartoons like this one by Neil Lonsdale appeared in the Auckland Star.

The cartoon reads: '24 unborn merino lambs inside three white rabbits arrived yesterday...' with a drawing showing lambs digging into the ground. A ewe tells one lamb to "Stop acting like a rabbit!"'.
