Pastoral Scene

Maker

Production date
1950s
Description
This is a great example of reverse glass art from the (or in the style-of) art deco / kitsch era around the 1920s but the style carried over into the 1970s to a lesser degree.

This particular work is a rare object of its kind: sandblasted reverse-glass etching.
It is unusual because the artist has etched the design using sandblasting and then has painted over it to realise the final design.

This practice was not usually treated as 'art' but was considered ornamental. The artist chose to make it a stand-alone artwork rather than a purely decorative object.

Though this is not a common object, the fascination of painting directly onto glass was on trend during the 1930s to the 1970s.
