Description
All wool travel / picnic rug, made at the Onehunga Woollen Mills, Auckland in the mid-twentieth century. Multicoloured plaid: pale brown (mushroom pink/brown), dark brown, cream, dark green and crimson red. Top and bottom end of the rug have a fringe. The reverse side is plain pale brown in colour. On the reverse side is a cloth label with "NEW ZEALAND ALL WOOL RUG" at the top and "MADE BY THE ONEHUNGA WOOLLEN MILLS" at the bottom. In the centre of this label is an embroidered portrait of a Maaori lady in traditional costume with embroidered wooden pou carvings on either side of her.
