Description
Artist Statement:
"The shape is part of the meaning of the piece as that kete holds knowledge and all the patterns are to do with Maori healers and faith. The back ground pattern on the yellow glaze is a pattern that is often used in tattoos.

I have used this pattern as a form of decoration weaving
the Tui bird is singing
Ihoa o nga mano
matua tama
wairua tapu
anahere pono
mete magnai
ae

this comes from the Ratana Faith and the tui is sitting on top of Te Matenga Tamati s meeting house who was a healer and prophet
his faith was Te Kohititanga Marama".
