Description
Artist statement: "For 38 years I have been a clay worker.
This installation has evolved as a reply, from
challenges fraught with emotion, defending
alongside my community of Hauraki, what sadly
are now remnant ecologies defining waters of
life and a primal language of landscape from
exploitation; in a particular, Multi-national mining.
Paradoxically, the work has come from a sense
of helplessness, not being able to find the words
to reply from essential experience I was giving
to. Now, by working it out through the clay and
allowing the primal language of form to talk back
to me, I am able to find the voice of reply.
We seem to forget we are water beings.
Every living thing upon this planet is a creative
expression of water. Our emotional body holds
the latent memory. When the emotional body
is blocked we are unwell. The well-being of the
water is a reflection of our attitude.
I am clay vessel carrying water.
Water carrier.
Memory carrier."
