Misty Spring Sunrise, Kakahi Country

Maker
Turi Park
Production date
2008-2010
Description
A landscape painting, showing a misty hill setting with cloudy sky and some areas of brighter illumination, including the foreground reeds. A fantail in the lower left hand corner is out of scale with the rest of the painting and is seen flying ‘into’ the image.

The work depicts the southern reaches of the King Country, in the vicinity of Kakahi, south-east of Taumarunui. The painting is significant for the region as it evokes the misty, brooding qualities of the King Country and is also associated historically with the artist Peter McIntyre, who also painted King Country landscapes.
