[Residence for Craig and McWatters, 1909.] Drawing No. 1.

Maker
Edgar Ernest Gillman
Production date
03 Nov 1909
Description
Drawings show existing and new ground plans and east elevation of dwelling. Built by J W Forrest, this 1909 extension to an existing residence suggests a significant step up in luxury for the occupant. The original floor plan can only be guessed at, but most likely it consisted of sitting room, dining room, kitchen and three bedrooms. The extension adds an extra bedroom, study, scullery and walk-in pantry. Perhaps the children were getting a bit older, because the bedroom at top left is designated “Girls”. Outhouses accommodate a separate wash-house and domestic poultry.

The original rear chimney, probably servicing the kitchen, was demolished and replaced with a double fireplace, one side for the kitchen, the other facing into the dining room. The original small deck at the front has been replaced with a generous verandah extending along two walls of the house.
