Description
The arrangement of the casein manufacturing process is more evident from the sectional view of this 1928 factory. Here, the reasons for the asymmetry of the building are clearly apparent. The machines for sifting the casein are very tall, and the feed hoppers extend up into the additional loft space. Note the economy of design – the receiving and storing of raw materials on the first floor allows them to be gravity fed into the separators, dryers and mills below, from which the casein is pumped up to the sifters in the loft and then returned by gravity feed to storage areas on the first floor.
