Description
Whalebone was rare and highly prized in Maaori society. It was often used as a material in the production of taonga or treasures that were handed down through the generations. This large unusual heru paraoa / whalebone hair comb has stylised incised designs based on koru forms and is thought to be from the Waikato region.
