Description
The photograph has been taken from inside a wharenui looking out the front tatau (door). The rafters and beams have been painted with traditional Maori patterns. There is a window to the left of the entranceway. A lit candle rests on the sill. There is a wooden stool under the window. To the right of the frame there is a partial view of a mattress on a raised wooden pallet. The view outside is of silhouetted hills and trees against a dusky sky.
