This page from the London Illustrated News features a series of engraved scenes focussed on the ‘War in New Zealand’. It features ‘Rangariri, From The Waikato’, ‘Maori Prisoners From Rangiriri Waiting To Be Placed On Board HMS Pioneer’ and ‘Stronghold Of The Maoris At Rangiriri Feb 27 1864’. A number of artists living and working in New Zealand at the time would act as correspondants for Newspapers in Britain and would supply drawings and paintings of important events that would then be turned into engravings for publication.
