Description
This is a stylised composition of a group of Maori hanging out next to their Model T Ford. This scene was a common subject during the 60’s & 70’s when Maori and Pacific Islanders were moving to the larger centres including Hamilton for work.

Vida Steinert (1906-) was born in Hamilton and studied painting at Elam School of Fine Arts under John Weeks. Weeks had an enormous influenece on many artists in New Zealand and was largely responsible for the cubist abstraction style that was employed by a number of regionalist painters.
