This work is an extended view of the landscape depicted in the watercolour held by Auckland War Memorial Museum ('Waiari: Forest rangers under Major von Tempsky nobly engaged with natives who were defeated'). The signature on verso is 'ER von Tempsky', suggesting that this work could also be Emelia von Tempsky's.
