Description
Forest Rangers or Armed Constabulary camp and redoubts, Waipa River, Waikato 1860s. Pirongia Mountain in background. This painting could represent Ngahinapouri, Te Rore, or Alexandra (Pirongia) as each of these settlements had redoubts located on either side of the Waipa River. Von Tempsky was stationed at Ngahinapouri for a short period in 1864 and later in 1868, had command of the Armed Constabulary stationed at Alexandra.
