Description
W.R. Friar seriously ill, October 21st (J. Allen). On of a series of telegrams (1984/2/91.1-5) received by Eleanor Friar regarding her son Bill’s health after he was shot at Passchendaele in October 1917. The first message, dated 17 October, reports that Friar is ‘doing splendidly’. Subsequent telegrams reveal that he was in fact critically injured. Friar died of secondary hemorrhaging on 5 November (DM).
