Description
Bamboo cylindrical container from the province of Solomon Islands. The lightly incised decoration is filled with pigment often comprising charcoal and tree sap. In many parts of Melanesia powdered lime (burnt coral and shells) is chewed with a mixture of betel leaf and nut to produce a mild stimulant or to ease hunger.
