Melanesia mask

Description
Carved wooden mask coated with a dark pigment so that the carved detail stands out. A face is framed in a circle of small carved lines. The eyes are narrow slits and the lips are carved to resemble teeth. A small braided rope is attached to the reverse in the upper centre by a metal nail.
