Description
In 1974 Waikato Museum acquired a selection of items, including this spike of hardwood, from Graham Jackson. Jackson was a New Zealand anthropologist who spent time living with and researching the Kopon and the Kalam people of the Lower Kaironk Valley in Papua New Guinea.

Jackson fieldnotes: Tapering spike of hardwood. Block palm = wym; base on the ground = y!. When food is stolen from a garden a number of these may be put in the ground on the path to the garden, so that whoever is stealing the food will stand on one. Probably manufactured by men.
