Description
In 1974 Waikato Museum acquired a selection of items, including this bamboo tube, from Graham Jackson. Jackson was a New Zealand anthropologist who spent time living with and researching the Kopon and the Kalam people of the Lower Kaironk Valley in Papua New Guinea.

Jackson fieldnotes: Small bamboo tube container holding four feather ornaments, each being a few red quills tied to the end of a small bamboo pin. Ydam = feathers from the bird ydam (Psittrichas fulgidus). Put in the hair in front of the head by males and females as decoration at ceremonials e.g. initiations, possibly others (get them out for shaking down). Made by men.
