Seed pod
Description
In 1974 Waikato Museum acquired a selection of items, including this seed pod, from Graham Jackson. Jackson was a New Zealand anthropologist who spent time living with and researching the Kopon and the Kalam people of the Lower Kaironk Valley in Papua New Guinea.
Jackson fieldnotes: Name of plant = mjawn; seed = magon. This has a little stone on it and it has been used as a rattle to entertain babies and may also be used as a whistle to imitate birds. Manufacture unknown, probably anybody.
