Description
In 1974 Waikato Museum acquired a selection of items, including this bark fibre, from Graham Jackson. Jackson was a New Zealand anthropologist who spent time living with and researching the Kopon and the Kalam people of the Lower Kaironk Valley in Papua New Guinea.

Jackson fieldnotes: A tree bark fibre used by women to make string by rolling it on their thighs. Used for string bags, men's string nets, clothing, arm and leg bands and making necklaces etc. Though string made from most barks are used for most purposes, some kinds of bark string may not be used for all purposes.
