Wale mali (small bag or purse)
Description
In 1974 Waikato Museum acquired a selection of items, including this small bag, from Graham Jackson. Jackson was a New Zealand anthropologist who spent time living with and researching the Kopon and the Kalam people of the Lower Kaironk Valley in Papua New Guinea.
Jackson fieldnotes: Small bag or purse woven from two ply fibre string. Note colouring though faded. Made by women only, used by both sexes. The colouring (rather spoiled) is with charcoal, reddish clay, kna and a reddish stone, ajamy.
