Brass gong
Description
A brass gong played to accompany chanting. Often imported from Brunei, sometimes made locally by Malohs or obtained from Chinese traders. This gong likely formed part of a family's wealth, but it may have also been considered communal as the gong was used in ceremonies involving other long house members. Each long house has one or more engkerumong exponents. They are played along with one or two suspended gongs, bendai and an hour glass drum. A variety of music is played: war dances, house building ceremonial music, marriage ceremonies, etc. The gong has a beaten surface.
