Description
In 1974 Waikato Museum acquired a selection of items, including this nose ornament, from Graham Jackson. Jackson was a New Zealand anthropologist who spent time living with and researching the Kopon and the Kalam people of the Lower Kaironk Valley in Papua New Guinea.

Jackson fieldnotes: Probably a cornus shell. Wrwr: no literal meaning known. Worn in the nose by males at ceremonials. May also be strung round the neck (this one has a hole in it for a piece of string). Probably manufactured by males. Shells are traded possibly already made or cut down.
