Description
In 1974 Waikato Museum acquired a selection of items, including this woven basket, from Graham Jackson. Jackson was a New Zealand anthropologist who spent time living with and researching the Kopon and the Kalam people of the Lower Kaironk Valley in Papua New Guinea.

Jackson fieldnotes: Basket = wanb ban (no literal meaning in this context). This is made specifically for boys to carry hobpan seeds in as a kind of charm for good health and growth. Small hand woven pouch containing six seeds. Manufactured by women for close relations.
