Description
A woven skirt for everyday and ceremonial use. Hand woven on loom.
Uses multiple dyes:
- rich, reddish brown dye: bark of mangrove or samak tree.
- dark purple: indigo plant `tarum'
- duller brown: 'dinang' (area catechu) dissolved in boiling water
- yellow: tumeric, Jack tree wood (artocarpa integrifolia) 'pedalai'
- blue: idogefern leaves with alkali
- brilliant red: ratan `jernang'
- green: overdying yellow lightly with blue black melastomacea leaves or mud ladic
