Necklace

Description
Intricate continuous silver chain necklace. Ornament worn during ceremonies. Purchased either from Chinese traders or from Maloh craftsmen. The latter formerly wandered about Borneo staying for short periods at different long houses. The jewellery is part of an individual family's wealth. If a bride remains in the room of her parents after marriage, the jewellery is retained as part of the wealth. If not, it accompanies the bride. This type of jewellery is available from antique dealers in Kuching.
