"The Graves of the Fallen"

Description
This 1919 booklet, The Graves of the Fallen, was sent in 1920 to the mother of Huntly-born soldier Rifleman William Friar by the Imperial War Graves Commission ‘with the compliments and deepest sympathies of the New Zealand Government’. Friar died of war wounds on November 1917 and is buried in Bolougne, France. The Imperial (now Commonwealth) War Graves Commission was established in 1917 to record and care for the graves of servicemen. The text of the booklet, which details plans for memorials and grave sites, was penned by famed imperial writer Rudyard Kipling.
