Henry Fagataro
Kakwaronaaru, the founding ancestress of Santa Ana and Santa Catalina, shown riding upon her other self, the turtle Kakwaronaaru who is ancestress of Sarofai (Turtle Clan). Wrapped in envelope and attached to carving – Marakaura for nose, Mafumafu for each ear. This carving is based on a traditional mythological theme but has been done for commercial reasons and is non-traditional in that it is a free-standing figure. The turtle is just one of many sea creatures representative of a clan.
