Coronation

The coronation of the monarch of the United Kingdom is a ceremony which dates back hundreds of years and is acknowledged and celebrated worldwide. The coronation of Charles III and his wife, Camilla as king and queen of the United Kingdom and the other Commonwealth realm countries took place on 6 May 2023 at Westminster Abbey and included the Coronation Procession in the magnificent Gold State Coach which is an eight-horse drawn carriage.

Charles III acceded to the throne on 8 September 2022 on the death of his mother, Queen Elizabeth II. The coronation of Queen Elizabeth II was held on 2 June 1953 at Westminster Abbey, London, and in Hamilton, New Zealand, her coronation was celebrated with a large crowd who had assembled in Garden Place.
