Description
This small humble bowl is an interesting specimen:
(1) It is called apira-ni-mwane (bowl of a man) but it is not used by a man but rather by a woman.
(2) It represents an example of the sacrifice bowl used by women when communicating with their ataro (spirit).
In appearance this is an apira ngaungau (ie. eating bowl). In function, however, it is not an apira ngaungau but an apira-ni-mwane of the same category as the inlaid bowls which men use when eating food with their ataro.
